Scoring Methodology

Transparent, evidence-based sustainability scoring for individuals and professionals.

Overview

S.O.E uses a weighted scoring system across five pillars to calculate an overall sustainability score from 0-100. The methodology is designed to be transparent, verifiable, and applicable to both individuals and professionals.

Your score reflects both your declared actions and the quality of evidence supporting those claims. This dual-score approach ensures that verified claims carry more weight than self-reported data.

Scoring Pillars

Data Quality & Trust

S.O.E distinguishes between Declared Score and Trusted Score:

Declared Score

Your raw score based on self-reported answers. This represents what you claim about your sustainability practices.

Trusted Score

Your verified score = Declared Score × Data Quality Factor. This is the score shown on leaderboards.

Data Quality Factor

The Data Quality Factor ranges from 0.4 to 1.0 based on verification evidence:

Plausibility Checks

S.O.E automatically checks for inconsistencies in your data to maintain integrity:

  • Cross-pillar consistency: Flags if claims in one area contradict another (e.g., zero flights but frequent international speaking)
  • Outlier detection: Identifies unusually low or high values that may need verification
  • Missing evidence: Suggests areas where documentation would strengthen your profile
  • Suspicious changes: Monitors for sudden large changes in reported data

Flagged items don't automatically reduce your score but may affect your trusted score until resolved.

Beyond your sustainability score, S.O.E includes gamification features to encourage consistent engagement and community competition.
